#1 Step To Being Successful - First Know What It Looks Like

How You Define Success

ree

You wouldn’t head into the woods without a trail map and a compass, right? Especially not in a thick, unfamiliar forest where you could wander in circles or end up miles off course.

Owning and running a business is no different. Without a clear sense of direction, you risk getting lost in the woods..or worse, building a business you never actually wanted in the first place.

That’s why defining success very clearly is pretty much essential.

The first step in getting clear on your path is to have a vision of where you’re headed.

Think of this as your EPIC Compass - the guide that helps you navigate not just exactly how you want your success to look, but your goals, how you want your energy to be, your joy, and the way you want to feel along the way.

Your EPIC Compass

Grab a journal and try these prompts. Be honest, raw, and real.

  1. Pie in the Sky Vision (5 - 15 Years...depending where you are in your journey)

This is your big picture, long-haul dream.

  • What does my ideal day look like 10 years from now?

  • Where am I waking up? Who am I with?

  • How am I spending my time?

  • How do I feel when I go to bed at night?

  • What’s different about my life compared to today?

Tip: Don’t limit yourself to what feels “realistic.” Let yourself dream.

2. Anchor Vision (3 Years)

This is your checkpoint - specific, measurable, and motivating.

  • What goals will I have achieved in 3 years that move me closer to my ultimate vision?

  • What’s my income, profit, or role in the business?

  • What personal shifts have I made (time, hobbies, health, relationships)?

  • How do I want to feel in daily life? Energized? Spacious? Creative? Grounded?

Tip: Keep both business and personal goals side by side. They’re not separate.

3. One-Year Vision

Here’s where the rubber meets the road. This should feel doable, not overwhelming.

  • Where do I want my business to be in 12 months?

  • Where do I want to be in 12 months?

  • What 3 personal priorities matter most this year?

  • What feelings do I want to experience more often? (Ease, joy, focus, freedom?)

  • What am I saying yes to? What am I saying no to?

  • And where do I want my numbers to be? Income? Profit? Clients? Staff? Projects? Expenses? Etc...

Tip: Make sure you believe these goals are achievable. This isn’t about pushing harder, it’s about aligning better.

*Bonus Tip: When you’re crafting your vision, make it an experience. Build a vision board. Turn it

into a storybook. Gather your favorite people for a creative brainstorming party. Create little rituals that get you inspired and 'in the flow.'

Your Vision: More Than Just Business

Most business planning focuses only on numbers: revenue, growth, staff. That’s important, but it’s only half the story.

What they don't usually include are things like; your hobbies, family, feelings, personal goals, health and wellness. How you want to feel. What you want your days to look like. The things you absolutely don’t want anymore and the things that are absolute priorities.

What’s the point of hitting your revenue goals if you’re burned out, overwhelmed, or disconnected from the life you actually want?

It's so important, we're going to say it one more time....your vision NEEDS to include more than just business.
